Summer Sports Overview
Summer Hiking
Summer Hiking is Vail Club 50’s most popular summer sports activity. The Club offers members twice weekly hikes at four difficulty levels starting June 1 and wrapping up September 30. Every hike offered by VC 50 is led by an experienced volunteer hike leader and a detailed description of all hikes is available to club members on the Club’s Events Calendar.
Since safety is the Club’s top priority, all hikes are previewed by a Leader and Co-Leader and all hikes have radios to be used for emergencies and to help keep and group together.
The Club also expects that all participants are fully prepared for every hike with appropriate hiking footwear, plenty of water, rain/wind/sun protection, layered clothing, poles (as needed) whistle, first-aid essentials, and trail snacks and/or lunch.
In keeping with Forest Service regulations, hikes are limited to 15 participants.
Road Cycling
Road Cycling continues to gain in popularity with Club members especially with the advent of E-Bikes. Road Cycling is offered twice per week.
Rides are organized by difficulty level: Easy, Moderate, and Difficult. The Club provides a detailed description of all rides including the number of miles, elevation gain, (if available) and road conditions.
Since safety is the Club’s top priority, Helmets are required. Also required is a fully operational bike, appropriate bike wear for the weather, water, snacks and first aid essentials.
Golf
Vail Club 50 also offers members the opportunity to participate in a VC 50 members-only nine-hole Golf League. VC 50 Club membership, prior registration, and payments are required to participate in this League.
Pickleball
Pickleball is also offered as a summer sports activity twice per week. The Club uses four courts with participants arranged by skill level (beginners, advanced beginners, and intermediate players). Club membership and prior registration are required as well as a fee for every date a member registers to play.
Yoga
VC 50 is delighted to offer a once weekly Yoga class for Club members. The instructors for this class are VC 50 members who are professionally trained Yogis who have volunteered to instruct the class.
Adopt-A-Trail
Vail Club 50 also volunteers to do trail maintenance work through the U.S. Forest Service’s ‘Adopt a Trail’ Program. Thanks to our members, our adopted trail is in excellent condition.
The Club does maintenance work once per month during the months of June, July, and August. Lunch is provided
