PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
I am thrilled to become the president of the Vail Club 50 as of October 1, 2019. We are all very fortunate to live (whether full or part time) in the Vail Valley. The club enhances our Vail Valley lives with enjoyable social and sports activities and many friends from varied backgrounds. I have to credit the success of our club to the fun loving members and especially to a large portion of our membership who volunteer many hours.
My wife, Suzanne, and I have always wanted to live in Colorado. We were fortunate to live and work in many fascinating places such as Miami, Hong Kong, Connecticut, Iowa, Wisconsin, and most recently Toronto. We purchased a condo in Beaver Creek in 1989 to enjoy for our vacations and finally moved here full time in 2014. Before the move we were apprehensive, since our impression of the Vail Valley was a transient vacation destination rather than a place to live. Learning about the Club solidified our decision to make the move and buy a home in Wildridge.
The Vail Club 50 is a fully volunteer organization, with no paid staff. Over 90% of our membership dues are used to fund member activities with only a small portion used to administer the Club. Without the generosity of our volunteers, our club could not exist.
I am fascinated by the diverse backgrounds of our membership. We all come with amazing talents and experiences. Your talents and experiences can add significant value to our club, while enhancing your enjoyment. Although we do offer many challenging winter and summer athletic activities, you don’t have to be an athlete to participate and volunteer. Our social activities are an excellent way for members and volunteers to meet new friends. New this past year are “nature and culture walks”. These casual walks are designed to have participants enjoy the outdoors at a casual pace and learn about our environment. If you are not yet volunteering for an activity or wish to get more involved with our club, please contact me or a member of the Board of Directors and we will suggest activities which you will enjoy.
I am very fortunate to assume the role of president from Pat Cornett, who successfully led the club over the past 2 years and was instrumental in implementing our website. With Pat’s leadership, our Board of Directors made this past year a great success. I want to especially thank the outgoing and continuing Board members and welcome the incoming Board members. Fortunately, Pat will remain on the Board for another 2 years guiding me as needed. With our outstanding members of the Board, I look forward to another successful year.
Best wishes,
Jim Yager
